Spring Flowers in Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar
The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, is renowned for its stunning display of flowers, particularly tulips. As Asia's largest tulip garden, it spans approximately 30 hectares (74 acres) and is situated at the foothills of the Zabarwan Range, overlooking the picturesque Dal Lake. The garden, originally known as Siraj Bagh, was opened in 2007 to promote floriculture and tourism in the Kashmir Valley.
In addition to tulips, the garden is home to 46 other flower varieties, including hyacinths, daffodils, ranunculus, narcissus, and muscari, many of which are also sourced from Holland. These complementary blooms enhance the garden's beauty, adding layers of texture and fragrance to the terraced landscape. The seven terraces are thoughtfully designed with flower beds, walkways, and water channels, offering visitors a scenic and immersive experience.
The best time to see these flowers is during the annual Tulip Festival, typically held from late March to mid-April, when the blooms are at their peak. In 2025, the garden opened to the public on March 26, featuring 1.7 million tulips and a new color scheme, with the total number of flower varieties reaching 74. This event, organized by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, not only highlights the floral splendor but also includes cultural programs, local handicraft displays, and Kashmiri folk performances, making it a vibrant celebration of spring in the valley.
